My dear Amelia You will rejoice to hear of the return of my amiable Brother from abroad. He arrived on thursday, and never did I see a finer form, save that of your sincere freind Matilda Hervey
LETTER THE 2D
Dear Beverley I arrived here last thursday and met with a hearty reception from my Father, Mother and Sisters. The latter are both fine Girls - particularly Maud, who I think would suit you as a Wife well enough. What say you to this? She will have two thousand Pounds and as much more as you can get. If you don't marry her you will mortally offend George Hervey
LETTER THE 3D
Dear Maud Beleive me I'm happy to hear of your Brother's arrival. I have a thousand things to tell you, but my paper will only permit me to add that I am yr affect. Freind Amelia Webster
LETTER THE 4TH
Dear Sally I have found a very convenient old hollow oak to put our Letters in; for you know we have long maintained a private Correspondence. It is about a mile from my House and seven from Yours. You may perhaps imagine that I might have made choice of a tree which would have divided the Distance more equally - I was sensible of this at the time, but as I considered that the walk would be of benefit to you in your weak and uncertain state of Health, I preferred it to one nearer your House, and am yr faithfull Benjamin Bar
LETTER THE 5TH
Dear Maud I write now to inform you that I did not stop at your house in my way to Bath last Monday -. I have many things to inform you of besides; but my Paper reminds me of concluding; and beleive me yr ever &c. Amelia Webster.
LETTER THE 6TH
Saturday Madam An humble Admirer now addresses you - I saw you lovely Fair one as you passed on Monday last, before our House in your way to Bath. I saw you thro' a telescope, and was so struck by your Charms that from that time to this I have not tasted human food. George Hervey.
LETTER THE 7TH
As I was this morning at Breakfast the Newspaper was brought me, and in the list of Marriages I read the following. "George Hervey Esqre to Miss Amelia Webster" yours, Tom.

Mia cara Amelia Ti rallegrerà sapere del ritorno dall'estero del mio amabile Fratello. È arrivato giovedì, e non ho mai visto una figura più fine, salvo quella della tua sincera amica Matilda Hervey
2ª LETTERA
Caro Beverley Sono arrivato giovedì scorso e ho avuto una calorosa accoglienza da mio Padre, mia Madre e le mie Sorelle. Queste ultime sono entrambe belle Ragazze - particolarmente Maud, che penso ti si adatti abbastanza bene come Moglie. Che ne dici? Avrà duemila Sterline e perciò molto di più di quanto tu possa ottenere. Se non la sposi offenderai mortalmente George Hervey
3ª LETTERA
Cara Maud Credimi sono felice di sapere dell'arrivo di tuo Fratello. Ho mille cose da dirti, ma il foglio mi permette solo di aggiungere che sono la tua affez. Amica Amelia Webster
4ª LETTERA
Cara Sally Ho trovato una vecchia quercia cava molto comoda per metterci le nostre Lettere; perché come sai da tempo manteniamo una Corrispondenza privata. È a circa un miglio da Casa mia e a sette dalla Tua. Forse riterrai che avrei anche potuto scegliere un albero che avrebbe permesso di dividere la Distanza in parti uguali - in quel momento ci ho pensato, ma avendo considerato che passeggiare sarebbe stato un beneficio per il tuo stato di Salute debole e incerto, ho preferito quello a uno più vicino a Casa tua, e sono il tuo fedele Benjamin Bar
5ª LETTERA
Cara Maud Ti scrivo per informarti che lunedì scorso non mi sono fermata da te mentre andavo a Bath -. Ho molte altre cose di cui informarti; ma il Foglio mi rammenta che devo concludere; e credimi la sempre tua ecc. Amelia Webster.
6ª LETTERA
Sabato Madam Un umile Ammiratore si rivolge a voi - vi ho vista deliziosamente Bionda mentre passavate lunedì scorso, di fronte a Casa nostra andando a Bath. Vi ho vista con un telescopio, e sono stato così colpito dal vostro Fascino che da quel momento in poi non ho toccato cibo terreno. George Hervey.
7ª LETTERA
Stamattina mentre facevo colazione mi hanno portato il Giornale, e negli annunci di Matrimonio ho letto quanto segue. "Egr. George Hervey con Miss Amelia Webster" il tuo, Tom.
